Residents were able to return home Saturday morning as officials lifted a mandatory evacuation that had been in place since late Friday afternoon due to the cleanup from Thursday’s trail derailment.
Officials said that the evacuation had been lifted and residents were able to retun to their homes around 7:30 Saturday morning after cleanup crews worked throughout the night to remove debris and possible hazardous materials from the area. Late Friday afternoon, about 100 people had to be evacuated as crews worked to remove a train car filled with a chemical called TDI off the tracks. The chemical still remains in the area, but is in a train car that has been removed from the tracks awaiting removal to another container. Read more
